Skin pigmentation is affected by the melanocytes - coloring pigments cells. Pigment dysfunctions are a result of increase or decrease of normal skin color. Typically the color of our skin depends on all constituted tissues, blood vessels and circulation and of course the amount of pigments in the skin, which may vary due to various internal and external factors.
The darker color pigment of skin depends on genetics, which implies a different combination of major skin pigments: melanin (brown pigment), carotene (yellow), oxyhemoglobin (red) and deoxyhemoglobin (blue). The color of the skin of people with different races is determined by the number of light brown and dark brown melanin.
Albinism - a disease, in which the melanin synthesis is missing and this causes depigmentation of hair, skin and eyes.
Melanin pigmentation or ‘tanning’ is a natural process as a result of sun light or solarium exposure. On light skin hyperpigmentation is more visible, expressed as moles, freckles and dark spots.
This is a common condition, in which some patches of skin become darker. Usually hyperpigmentation is harmless and occurs in all races. It is caused by excessive production of melanin, the dark-skin pigment. Skin hyperpigmentation is a disease, expressed in the appearance of brown spots of different sizes and colors over the face and body, characterized by sealing the corneal layer. It can be spread over large areas of skin or can be localized on certain areas only.
Skin pigmentation involves melanin - the substance produced by melanocytes of the basal layer of the epidermis. Melanin is a pigment, responsible for the color of skin, eyes and hair and is genetically determined. When exposed to sunlight melanin acts s a natural sunscreen. it converts the ultraviolet rays into energy, reducing the number of free radicals that can damage the skin cells. The excess or uneven distribution of melanin can be caused by: sun exposure, hormones, generic factors, lack of vitamins or various toxic substances. Taking certain medications can so be a reason for the appearance of hyperpigmentation over body and face.
External damage to the skin or internal factors can start Hyper-pigmentation. External damage may include - Sun damage, anything that causes redness of skin, inflammation, injuries, acne, heat, shaving, waxing, plucking, etc. The internal factors may include - hormonal changes during puberty, post-pregnancy, during menopause, hormone treatments, contraceptive pills, steroids, drugs or medications.
Certain skin care products and home remedies may cause the above mentioned symptoms leading to Hyper-pigmentation.
Underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, allergies, etc., may also promote the problem. In many cases it may also be genetically inherited from family members.
At the cellular level it is the over-activity of Melanocytes caused by external and/or internal factors that result in Hyper-pigmentation. Excess production of Melanin is only a symptom of the over-activity of Melanocytes. Conventional treatments that claim to reduce pigmentation either work only for the duration of the treatment or don’t work at all because they suppress the symptom without treating the root cause.
Some therapies cause even more pigmentation because they damage skin further causing it to become Red and then more dark! Hyper-pigmentation can be effectively treated by normalizing the over-active Melanocytes and restoring them to their normal young form.
Achromin® is an advanced skin whitening line, which treats the problem at the root cause. Achromin® carefully penetrates the upper layers of skin to reach the basal epidermis where melanocytes reside. There, Achromin® specifically acts on over-active Melanocytes and not only controls excess pigment production, but actually normalizes those over-active cells! In the process, the cells surrounding the melanocytes also become healthy! This helps make the skin revert back to its young, firm and healthy form - free of not only Hyper-pigmentation but also lines, wrinkles, open-pores, roughness and acne.
Hyper-pigmentation is a skin disorder in which special cells called “Melanocytes”, that reside in the deep part of the skin called the “Basal epidermis” or “Basal Layer”, become overactive and produce excess ‘Melanin’. Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its colour and this excess production of Melanin is a symptom of the over-activity of Melanocytes. Hyper-pigmentation is a disorder that is very difficult to treat because the over-activity becomes permanent.
